Automated Trash CollectionAutomated Trash: A New Trend in Service Throughout California, landfill space is disappearing. Many landfills have already closed. And those that remain open have steadily raised their fees and available space has decreased. To solve the problem, the state legislature passed Assembly Bill 939 - California's integrated Waste Management Board Act. It calls for each city in California to reduce the amount of trash going to our landfills by 50% by the year 2000. To help meet that state-mandated goal, Burrtec Waste and Recycling Services continues to bring state-of-the-art automated trash and recycling collection technology to the Coachella Valley. The system has been tried and tested for many years. In fact, it's successfully being used in thousands of communities throughout the United States. Automated trash service offers many benefits. One of the most exciting is that Green Waste (yard and shrubbery clippings) can be recycled with your weekly trash. Recycling is the key to reduce the amount you pay for trash service. How Does An Automated Trash Collection System Work? With automated trash, you fill your container(s) during the week and roll it to the curb on your regular trash day. A truck equipped with a mechanical arm lifts it from the street and empties its contents into the truck without the driver ever leaving the cab. What Can I Do With My Old Containers? Old trash cans can come in handy. You might want to keep one to use as an earthquake supply container or for storing yard tools. Or, you can donate the cans to schools or friends who don't have automated collection. What To Do On Trash Day? On your regular trash day, roll the container(s) out to your curb before 6:00 a.m.
Only regular household trash and yard trimmings should go in your container(s). The following items should not be placed in the container:
One is a Mixed Waste container used for household trash. The second container is a Recycling Container used for recyclable materials such as plastic bottles, glass jars, steel and tin cans, liquor bottles, juice bottles and cans, aluminum foil and cans, empty aerosol cans, pie tins, plastic milk jugs, newspapers, magazines, white and mixed paper, cereal boxes, junk mail, telephone books, detergent boxes, tissue boxes, and cardboard. Please rinse out bottles, cans, and jars to help keep your container clean. The third container is a Green Waste Only container used for recycling grass and shrub clippings, weeds, plants, sawdust, and unpainted, untreated wood. Recycling yard waste diverts it from landfills and enables it to be recycled into usable organic material. Green Waste Only containers are to be used only for Green Waste. If your container is lost or stolen, first check with your neighbors. All containers look alike but are stamped with serial numbers for easy identification. What Should I Do If I Move? If you move, please leave your container for the next resident. Containers are provided for your use but remain the property of Burrtec Waste and Recycling Services.
